Process of building Penguin exhibit at Mesker Park Zoo clears another hurdle

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The process of building the new Penguin exhibit at Mesker Park Zoo clears another hurdle.

And all signs point toward construction.

At a hearing, Evansville’s Parks Board picked through the details of a public private partnership.

The city and zoo are joining forces – and funds – to make the Penguins of Patagonia exhibit a reality.

It will cost about seven million dollars and feature up to 30 Humboldt Penguins.

“I’m still hoping, and fundraising is definitely still happening, so we really need to get past our fundraising goals. But I expect we can start construction either later this fall or early next year.”

Beck said they’re ready to get the project out to bid. He expects to enter into a contract at the next Parks Board meeting to start construction.
