EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Get out those munchie maps because Franklin Street is officially closed in anticipation of the 2019 Fall Festival. The rain didn’t stop people from coming out to kick off the big week with family family day.
“We want the kids to have fun and enjoy it and this is normally a perfect day for that,” said 2019 Fall Festival Chairman.
However, on this year’s family day, the rain kept some people away.
“Everyone’s been complaining about the rain,” said Zachary Davis.
Although not everybody stayed home. Many families still showed up to play games and take a ride on the merry-go-round.
“You can get a huge amount of balls for a low price and you can share it with the family and you can just throw them all. All they want to do is throw them, they don’t really care if they get a goldfish or not,” said Davis.
“It’s just for the kiddos that’s what we do. We like taking care of the families and giving them a day down here where they’re not caught up in the rest of the hustle and bustle of the rest of the festival,” said Green.
Around the corner on Franklin Street, booths and bigger rides line the closed roadway as workers prepare for the big week ahead.
All of the kids in the area they look forward to the Fall Festival. If you look at the kids out here right now, even in the rain, kids don’t care if it’s raining, they’re here to have fun,” said Green.
Rain or shine, the 98th Fall Festival is sure to bring plenty of smiles.
