Recovery effort continues following explosion at Paradise Mine

CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (WEHT) – Recovery crews continue their work Friday afternoon at Paradise Mine, where a contractor fell into a shaft after a methane gas explosion.

Richard Knapp, 62, is still in the mine following the explosion.

The Kentucky Division of Mine Safety said Knapp was in the process of sealing an opening at the closed mine, but in the process methane ignited.

About 30 people have worked on the recovery effort.
