Blood donation centers in western Kentucky are experiencing obstacles in looking for donors.
Officials with the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center in Owensboro say they had as little as a day’s supply of blood. They’re now at three-day’s supply, but are looking to have a five-day supply. The center provides blood for six western Kentucky hospitals. Officials say humid weather and the Zika virus are two obstacles in getting donors
“Anyone who has traveled outside the United States, there’s a 4-week deferral period for them to be able to donate blood for lots of areas that commonly people go to. We have a couple of factors working against us right now,” says Vicki Ellis of the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center.
If you want to donate, you can find more information at the blood center’s website: http://www.wkrbc.org/
