Reitz High School choir will be ‘Singing with Legends’

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – It’s a big night Tuesday night for some members of the Reitz High School choir.

They’ll be lending their voices – on stage – providing back-up for a very popular song.

This is really a once in a lifetime opportunity for those students.

Tuesday night when the band, Foreigner, takes the stage at the Aiken Theatre in Evansville about 25 students from Reitz High School will join the group on stage providing vocals for one of the band’s number one hits.

It’s a song many of us know well.

First released in 1984 – it remains Foreigner’s biggest hit. Rolling Stone Magazine even calls it one of the greatest songs of all time.

And Tuesday night – when that song is performed on stage in Evansville – these students at Reitz High School will get their moment in the spotlight, singing and dancing alongside the band.

“I just know them because other people I knew listened to them and I knew “I want to know what love is” and I really like that song and it’s in a lot of movies.”

Singing with the band during its concert is an experience Foreigner offers to some high school choirs in the cities they perform.

Reitz’s Choir Director says she jumped at the opportunity to get her students on stage to provide back-up for a group of legends.

“It’s an experience they’re not going to forget and imagine being a grandparent who bought tickets back in the day to see them and now you’re going to buy them again to see your grandchild backing them up. It’s got to be a surreal experience.”

“I actually have my 21-year-old brother from Bloomington coming up and seeing me.”

“I have to get like signatures for my family and my co-workers because they’re excited for me.”

This group of selected students were assigned to watch YouTube videos of other high school choirs – providing backup – learning what they did and what parts they sang. They’ve also rehearsed together twice at school.

Eyewitness news was there during a rehearsal Monday morning.

After working to memorize the lyrics and rehearing the song together several times, these students say they’re ready for their big moment on the big stage with the legendary rock band.

Foreigner will also be donating $500 to the Reitz High School choir.

If you would like to watch them perform that concert is Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Old National Events Plaza.
