Remains of man killed in Pearl Harbor return home


CENTERTOWN, Ky. (WEHT) – The remains of a missing World War II sailor returned home on Thursday.

The remains of Navy Fireman 3rd Class Welborn Ashby arrived at Bevil Brothers Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Ashby died in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

He was buried in a tomb of the unknown in Hawaii until DNA testing identified him in 2019.

Services will be held at Bevil Brothers Funeral Home on Memorial Day.

Ashby will be buried in Centertown.
