This week’s edition checks out a new class at Ascension St. Vincent YMCA: aerial yoga.
Aerial yoga takes general yoga practices but adds long silks that hang from the ceiling, assisting in allowing the body to be lifted up into the air and even flipped upside down.
“It’s a lot of fun, and it’s really different,” said instructor Megan McGuyer. “You get out of your comfort zone, go upside down, and it just gives you the feel of being a circus stunt person.”
Not only is the class fun, but it’s certainly a good workout. Each class is at least an hour long and focuses on full body strength.
“You definitely feel it the next day,” said aerial yoga participant Natalie Miller. “It works your core, arms, abs, legs, really everything!”
Aerial yoga classes are offered at Ascension St. Vincent YMCA at various times throughout the week.
