An Evansville business is back to work after a fire in June forced it to close its doors temporarily.
River City Mercantile says it’s been open for a few weeks after a one-month hiatus.
A fire in a vacant building near Twilight Bistro on Main Street back in late June caused many stores on the block to close shop.
After cleaning up the damage, River City Mercantile says it’s back in business.
Leatherworker Christian South-Alderson says, “We had some damage. We were closed for a month. There was a lot of smoke damage, but it could have been a lot worse. We’re just lucky that we’re still standing.”
Store officials say construction outside the building is still keeping some shoppers away.
They plan on having a grand re-opening once crews can tear down the gutted building.
