It’s a need that’s ever present, but now the American Red Cross says they are facing a critical shortage of blood.
On Tuesday a blood drive was held at St. Vincent in Evansville. Last week the Red Cross issued an emergency call for blood donations. This means they have less than a five-day supply for local hospitals.
Red Cross officials say while no medical procedures have had to be postponed yet, they don’t want it to come to that.
“What we don’t want to run into is a situation where we have a significant emergency that would take up a large supply of blood for those patients because you always have to have blood on the shelves for emergencies,” said Karen Robertson.
If you didn’t get a chance to donate, you can still make an appointment to give blood, click here.
