School bus drivers receive training to help respond to students’ emotions

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – Western Kentucky bus drivers are learning how to respond to students they drive to and from school.

Drivers from four districts had a love and logic training session at Owensboro High School.

It focuses on how they can understand emotions properly respond to their students, and how to help a student who experienced a traumatic event.

“We’re the first people to see them at the start of the school day and the last people to see them at the end of the school day. We can change their whole day, their whole perception, make it a better day or make it a lot worse for them. So, we want to offer them a safe place.”

Nearly 300 bus drivers attended Thursday morning’s training.

Other school workers will have similar training over the next two weeks.
