Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says he won’t attend the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
He says he’s scheduled town hall events and plans to perform pro bono eye surgeries that week.
During Eyewitness News’ Tina Stein’s interview last week, she asked the senator about the upcoming convention and he didn’t say a word about not attending.
Sen. Paul is running for re-election and dropped out of the presidential race ahead of Kentucky’s first-ever Republican Caucus. That process was established to allow him to run for both positions at the same time.
Sen. Paul is facing Democrat Jim Gray in Novemeber. Gray is the mayor of Lexington.
Coverage of the Republican National Convention begins on Sunday night.
Eyewitness News’ Staci Da Silva will be in Cleveland reporting live and talking to local delegates throughout the convention.
