Services for miner who died at Cardinal Mine being held today

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) –  Services are being held on Tuesday for the miner who died on September 5 at the Cardinal Mine in Madisonville.

The funeral service for 39-year-old Jeremy Elder is taking place at the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Providence at 2 p.m.

Elder was pronounced dead on September 5.

According to the company, Elder was found unresponsive near a battery-powered scoop located inside the mine.

First responders tried to resuscitate Elder, but were unsuccessful.

Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery in Shady Grove, Kentucky.

An investigation of the circumstances surrounding Elder’s death is still underway.

Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church is located at 1124 Pleasant Valley Road in Providence.
