Sheriff Wedding says EPD officers acted ‘responsibly’ during arrest of teen

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding posted a statement on Facebook on Tuesday, saying that he believes officers acted “responsibly, appropriately and swiftly” during the arrest of a teenager on the second day of school.

The Evansville Police Department stood behind its officers’ use of force on Friday and released more than nine minutes of body camera video of the incident.

Police said they were responding to a school bus fight last week, when they said a student got off the bus and resisted arrest.

The bus was at Southeast 8th and Gum Streets.

Police said a 14-year-old student gave a false name and then jumped out of the emergency door in the back of the bus during the investigation of the fight.

Police said the force they used against him was ruled justifiable.
