Sheriff’s office warns of hoax Facebook post

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said a hoax Facebook post resulted in an investigation on Friday evening.

The sister of a local student posted false information surrounding an alleged kidnapping, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the kidnapping never occurred.

The student is accounted for and in a safe location, according to authorities.

The sheriff’s office asks Facebook users to place their confidence in the accuracy of posts from known sources with established reputations for reliability.
