Sorgho Elementary rallies behind girl awaiting liver transplant

SORGHO, Ky. (WEHT) – A western Kentucky community is rallying on behalf of a young girl awaiting a liver transplant with a unique fundraiser called Pennies for Ruby.

Ruby Knelson is a kindergartener at Sorgho Elementary School.

Staff members and classmates are bringing donations of specific coins and wearing special clothing.

Monday’s theme was, “Bring pennies and wear a hat.” Here’s a look at the full schedule for the week:

Monday: Bring pennies, wear a hat
Tuesday: Bring nickels, wear your favorite sports team
Wednesday: Bring dimes, wear tie-dye
Thursday: Bring quarters, dress like a twin
Friday: Bring all coins, wear PJ’s
