Stove Top Stuffing was invented by Tri-State native

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Americans enjoying Stove Top Stuffing as part of their Thanksgiving meal can thank a Tri-State native.

According to Purdue University, one of its 1953 Home Economics graduates invented the side dish.

Her name was Ruth Siems and she was an Evansville native.

The school said Siems developed the recipe while working for General Foods.

Kraft owns the Stove Top brand now.

It sells approximately 60 million boxes each Thanksgiving.

Siems died at her home in Newburgh in 2005.
