OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – Students at Owensboro Middle School paid tribute to a classmate who passed away last week.

Students released balloons during a funeral procession for Roxanne “Roxie” Pickrell as it passed the school.

Pickrell, a seventh-grader at Owensboro Middle School, passed away at Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville last week.

Principal Randy Bryant said Roxie was friendly and nice to other students.

“She’s one that you won’t forget. I just remember how nice she was and how she treated everybody. She treated everybody that you want to be treated. It’s tough when you lose anybody. Roxie was a very special student,” said Bryant.

Pickrell’s classmates also made artwork in honor of her, including coloring in foxes that are on display in the school’s hallways.
