Study finds Indiana, Kentucky high in probation and parole rates

(WEHT) – A new study finds Indiana and Kentucky rank in top 20 states for highest probation and parole rates.

U.S. Drug test Centers released a study called Probation Nation: America on Parole using the most recent data from the Prison Policy Initiative, the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Council for State Governments Justice Center.

A total of 20 states have rates that are higher than the overall U.S. probation and parole rate of 1,344 per 100,000, including Kentucky (1,409) and Indiana (1,730). Illinois is much lower on the list (969). Georgia has by far the highest probation and parole rate in the country, with a number that’s double the next-highest state, Pennsylvania.

The study analyzed probation or parole in each state, how rates have changed and how many people are in prison over violations. A full link to the survey can be found here.
