“The marker” sculpture unveiled in downtown Evansville

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – An unveiling ceremony is held for a new outdoor public sculpture named “the marker”.

The sculpture features a four-foot diameter mirrored sphere on a ten-foot steel black post.

It resembles an oversized map pin, marking its location as a destination.

The artist says she couldn’t think of a better location.

“You know right here where Evansville began and we’re right by the river front and I think it has good visibility and I’m hoping that it will draw people down to come and just play. I mean this is a piece for people to have fun with.”

The arts council commissioned sculpture is located at WNIN’s studio on Main Street.

City officials say they hope it will become a destination for downtown visitors.

It has already gained a new nickname “you are here.”
