Todd Lickliter named new UE basketball coach

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The University of Evansville has named the new head coach for its men’s basketball team. University officials confirm Todd Lickliter will take over just hours after it was announced Walter McCarty was dismissed.

We’re told Lickliter has signed a multiyear deal with the Aces.

In a statement from Lickliter per the UE press release, he says:

“I am humbled by the chance to lead the Purple Aces program and thankful to reunite with this outstanding group of student-athletes. It is a privilege to be a part of a program with a rich history and tradition.”

Lickliter adds:

“It’s not how I would want this job, but it’s exactly the job I would want and exactly the guys I would want to try to lead.”

Lickliter was an assistant coach under McCarty during the 2018-2019 season before he resigned to recover from serious medical problems he suffered in an accident.

Lickliter will be on the bench for Wednesday’s home game against Drake.

He coached Butler from 2001 to 2007, and at Iowa from 2007 to 2010.
