Saturday marked National Public Lands Day — and some volunteers in Evansville acknowledged by working together to help clean up some public parks.
More than 120 employees from the Toyota plant in Gibson County presented a $10,000 check to Evansville mayor Lloyd Winnecke to go toward the parks department.
But they got to work too; cleaning, mulching, painting, planting and refurbishing benches at Sunrise Park on Evansville’s riverfront.
“The children I think are learning from their parents,” says Norm Bafunna, president of Toyota Manufacturing in Indiana. “They’re learning to say, ‘Hey, what do we do with some time that we have on weekends? Can we spend a few hours making things better for everyone on weekends?’ To see the children doing that is great.”
