EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The man charged with recording a customer in the restroom at an Evansville restaurant appeared in court today. Now, the owners of Tres Reynas are responding to the arrest saying they don’t want customers to be afraid to come back.

Witnesses say the employee claimed to have placed the phone in the bathroom to keep customers from stealing paper towels. The owner tells Eyewitness News she was never concerned with how many paper towels customers were using. She said she couldn’t believe an employee would hide a phone in the soap dispenser. That dispenser has now been taken by police. The restaurant is still open for business, but the owner says fewer people have been coming through the door since the news broke.

“People were scared to come after that happened but hopefully since he already got arrested, people will be coming back to enjoy our food and service. He was gone Tuesday, as soon as my husband found out he fired him,” said Tres Reynas owner Susanti Castro.

Police charged Marcos Leon with placing that hidden camera in the restroom. He pleaded not guilty in court. Leon is charged with attempted voyeurism and is being held on a $1,000 cash bond.
