(WEHT) — The White House announced the Opening Up America Again Congressional Group Thursday, and all six Tri-State senators are part of the group.

Indiana Senators Mike Braun and Todd Young, Kentucky senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul and Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth are serving on the bipartisan task force which will provide counsel to the President on the re-opening of America in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sen. Braun, a long-time business owner from Jasper, hopes to use his experience of running a business to help get the economy started again.

The senator tells us he’ll be pushing for a smart re-start to the economy as the country deals with the new norm.

“It’ll be different until we have a vaccine, until we have therapies that are proven to work, we’re going to take to take a little risk, take all the knowledge we’ve learned about it and be entrepreneurial in how we go forward.”

The White House said Thursday’s conversations included a range of topics including the need for additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program, the international and domestic supply chains, ways to energize the economy, surprise medical billing, clarifying the difference between essential and non-essential workers, mental health, and relief for small businesses.

Additionally, the Opening Up America Again Congressional Group discussed the rapidly expanding access to COVID-19 diagnostic and anti-body tests, ventilators, face masks, and other PPE.
