Trial begins for man accused in VFW shooting

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The man facing attempted murder charges in connection with a January shooting appeared in court on Monday for the first day of his trial.

John Michael Burghardt is accused of shooting Paul Glover in the abdomen at the Evansville VFW in January.

Police said the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation after Burghardt threatened to shoot someone inside the building and was confronted by Glover.

In addition to attempted murder, Burghardt is facing criminal recklessness and intimidation charges.
