The Owensboro man accused of shooting police officer Zach Morris will go on trial starting July 9.

That date was set during a court appearance Wednesday morning for David Turley.

Officer Morris was shot after he climbed Turley’s private fence on Hathaway St.

Police said Officer Morris was trying to track down a man accused of breaking into cars near the area.

Turley said it was dark and he was also unable to see much through a fence when he fired at the officer.

A Daviess County grand jury indicted Turley back in December on one count of 1st Degree Assault.

He has pled not guilty.
