Uber has decided to roll into the River City and with new technology comes a lot of questions like who gets to get behind the wheel? Tonight a gathering hoped to provide answers.
Most people look at driving as a way to get from point A to point B.
“I feel right at home getting in a car and going somewhere,” Dianne Voigt says.
But what if you could make some extra cash doing it? Well that is what brought more than 200 people to Uber’s informational meetings today.
Alex Mourer with Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville says, “It’s been a bit of an older demographic it seems like a lot of retired people have been showing up to learn how to be a driver how to use the app.”
The meetings covered how you can become a driver, how to use the app, and any questions potential drivers had. But the audience all had one thing in common…they came for similar reasons.
“Freedom,” Voigt says. “I can work when I want.”
Kathy Peak says, “I think it would be the flexibility that’s involved and it’s a great way to earn some extra cash.”
“I like to be social and a little extra income as well,” Matthew Tanner says.
409 cities around the world have Uber and Evansville will be the newest. As potential drivers sit in an audience full of questions most are just excited about Uber rolling into town.
“Uber is an up and coming thing and when the community learns more about it there will be probably a lot more interest,” Peak says.
If you missed the meetings tonight there will be one tomorrow at the Evansville airport at 5:30. In addition to the sessions, there will be an opportunity for drivers to ask one-on-one questions at the Evansville airport from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
