Union County native to become Commander of USS Thomas Hudner

UNION COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) – A Union County native is about to take command of one of the US Navy’s newest ships.

The family of Executive Officer Brett Litchfield said he is scheduled to become Commander of the USS Thomas Hudner.

Litchfield was recently the executive officer of the ship until earlier this year.

The Union County High School graduate has spent nearly 30 years in the US Navy.

His family said it’s been his goal to become a commander.

A change-of-command ceremony is scheduled for Friday morning in Florida.
