Update: Suspect booked in jail following pursuit involving stolen vehicle in Evansville

Update (9:17 p.m.)

The suspect involved in an alleged carjacking and chase has been booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Joshua Ray Scherretz, 36, of Henderson, is charged with resisting law enforcement, armed robbery, hit and run accident, and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license.

Police say Scherretz stole a vehicle around 5 p.m. at Shoe Carnival on Green River Road. They say he led police on a short pursuit that ended at Governor and Delaware.

Scherretz is being held without bond.

Update (8:20 p.m.)

Evansville Police have arrested a carjacking suspect after a chase ended near the downtown area.

Police say the suspect stole a vehicle around 5 p.m. at Shoe Carnival on Green River Road.

Officers say the suspect told a juvenile in the car that he was armed. The juvenile went into the store to tell his mom as the suspect left with the vehicle.

The mom called 911 to report that her vehicle had been stolen.

An officer saw the stolen vehicle on the westbound Lloyd and said the driver fled.

The chase ended after 10 minutes at Governor and Delaware.

An EPD cruiser was rammed and damaged during the incident.

One person is in custody following a pursuit in Evansville, involving a stolen vehicle.

Dispatch says the call came in around 5 p.m., regarding a stolen vehicle at Shoe Carnival on Green River Road.

An officer saw the reported stolen vehicle on the westbound Lloyd and said the driver fled.

The pursuit lasted about 10 minutes and ended at Governor and Delaware.

According to police, the suspect implied he was armed when he took the vehicle. Police also say there was a juvenile inside the car, but got out to tell their mom what had happened.

When mom and juvenile walked out of Shoe Carnival, they say the suspect took off in the vehicle.

An EPD crusier and the suspect vehicle were damaged.

The suspect was taken into custody, but the suspect’s name has not been released at this time.
