Vanderburgh County Republican Party files for Ward 2 city council recount

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Republican Party Chair Wayne Parke has filed paperwork for a recount in an Evansville City Council race in the 2019 election.

Parke filed for the recount in Vanderburgh Circuit Court in on Friday in the race for Ward 2 just one hour before the deadline to do so.

On election night democrat Missy Mosby defeated republican Natalie Rascher by 31 votes.

A few days later when the election board met a 109 were added, that were not originally counted. Most were found during a download process of polling machines, while a small number came from people filling out provisional ballots.

These findings mean Republican Natalie Rascher lost to Mosby by only 19 votes.

Candidates had until November 19 to file a recount, while the party chair was eligible to file with a deadline of Friday.

Wayne Parke tells Eyewitness News the filing is to assure the people of Ward 2 that the proper person won the ward.
