EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT)- A Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office K9 apprehended a suspect after they tried to flee in a vehicle that was reported stolen in Georgia.

The Sheriff’s Office says they were initially dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle on the 14000 block of Browning Road in northern Vanderburgh County Saturday morning when they found the car parked off the roadway.

Authorities say they were searching the vehicle for occupants when the driver, Carl Culbertson Jr. tried to flee and nearly hit a deputy. Even after the car was boxed in, Culbertson Jr. reportedly refused to exit the vehicle. After failed negotiations, the deputies deployed the K9 through a broken window to apprehend Culbertson Jr.

After receiving medical clearance from a local hospital, Culbertson Jr. was charged with auto theft, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness, and trespassing.
