EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Police say no one was shot following a report of an active shooter at Eastland Mall in Evansville.
Officers responded to to the mall shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday. We’re told the mall went on lockdown while officers made sure everyone was alright.
Police said they have no reports of any victims and do not believe any shots were fired. Officers tell us several calls to dispatch reported a large fight and that a gun was drawn.
EPD Sgt. Taylor Merriss said off-duty officers that were already at the mall heard about a large fight inside and didn’t know the severity of the call until they saw EPD officers walking in with rifles and bulletproof armor.
Officers could be heard on the scanner saying that people were running and hiding in stores.

During a news conference, police did say a gun magazine was found inside the mall and a handgun was found outside under a vehicle.
According to officers, four males were detained for questioning.
“We’ve learned things from a previous active shooter and we also have patted each other on the back for the great things we did as well. Thankfully there weren’t any shots fired. In this instance it wasn’t a true active shooter but officers did arrive as if it was. And that’s an incredible response,” said Merriss.
The Evansville Police Department is asking for any witnesses to come forward and tell officers what they saw.
This is a developing story. We’ll keep you updated on-air and online with more information.
