Vectren’s proposed natural gas plant in Posey Co. receives criticism

Local News

Members of five local groups gathered at Evansville Central Library to oppose Vectren’s proposed natural gas plant in Posey County.

The groups included The League of Women Voters of Southwest Indiana, Indivisible Evansville, Citizen’s Climate Lobby and others.

Each organization sent letters to CenterPoint Energy’s CEO. CenterPoint recently acquired Vectren.

Copies of those letters were distributed at the meeting.

People said they would like to see Vectren move towards a more renewable energy source.

“They do have some projects in conjunction with the City of Evansville, Some Solar Power, they so buy some wind energy, but it’s just not nearly enough to solve the problem that we are facing.”

The natural gas plant would be built on the site of the current AB Brown Generating Station.

Vectren says the new plant would reduce carbon emissions by 60%.

The decision on the plant is still pending.
