VHS gets the key to River Kitty Cat Cafe in Evansville

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The key to Evansville’s River Kitty Cat Cafe is now in new hands.

But not unfamiliar ones.

As we reported Monday, the Vanderburgh Humane Society has purchased the River Kitty Cat Cafe downtown. The two were already old partners.

More than 400 VHS felines have been adopted from the cafe since it opened in 2017.

And no cats have been euthanized due to space in that time frame.

The transition also means more direct support for the humane society.

“Every dollar that – if you buy a macaroon, if you buy a smoothie, that’s all gonna make money that’s going to help buy a vaccine help buy a heartworm test. All things we need when we need money for the shelter itself.”

Some are asking if VHS knows how to operate a cafe. They say current cafe staff is staying on – making this transition even easier.
