(WEHT)- The Evansville Fire Department and the Vanderburgh County Sheriffs responded Saturday morning to a water rescue near Old Green River Rd and South Green River Rd.

In a press release, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says an elderly man drove his car on to the road but was able to roll down his window and exit the vehicle. Authorities say the man refused medical treatment and a local farmer used a backhoe to pull the vehicle out of the water.

The man told police he wanted to see how high the water was at Angel Mounds Boat Ramp.
