The Webster County Animal Shelter announced that it is starting a Spay and Neuter voucher program called Webster County Area S.N.I.P. (Spay Neuter Initiative Program).

The shelter received a $48,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to fund a total of 500 surgeries.

S.N.I.P. vouchers will be available to all Webster County residents to surgically alter their dogs or cats. The voucher is available for $25 and the voucher can be used for the spay/neuter procedure and vaccination against Rabies.

A limited amount of vouchers will also be available in Union, Hopkins, Henderson, Crittenden, Caldwell, and McLean counties.

“ The S.N.I.P. VOUCHER program is a great opportunity to get your pet surgically altered at a very low rate,” said Webster County Animal Control officer Aaron Richmond. “ We at the Webster County Animal Shelter hope that you take advantage of this new program ,the intent of this program is to help prevent unwanted litters of puppies and kittens from being born,” Richmond added. “ These unwanted litters usually end up on the street or in our Shelter, our hope is that this program will provide a cost effective way to help with stray dog and cat problem.”

If interested, you can purchase a S.N.I.P. voucher at the Webster County Animal Shelter in Dixon for your dog or cat. If you are a county resident, you will be asked to purchase a county dog license for $5 to get a voucher for your dog. When a voucher is purchased for $25, $15 of that will go into the S.N.I.P fund to continue the program for next year.
