EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Cold weather is moving into the Tri-State and could cause some issues.
Although Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early Spring, we aren’t clear tomorrow morning’s temp in the low teens our weather team laid out the risk early today.
With falling temperatures, firefighters remind us to take extra precautions when using external heat sources like space heaters.
“They do put off a significant amount of heat keep them out away from the wall away from curtains,” says Scott Township Fire Department PIO Kyle Oldham.
According to Oldham, chimney fires and space heaters are some of the leading causes of fires.
But safety measures don’t just fall within our homes.
Car mechanics say there are some things you should check off before hitting the streets.
“Well, there’s six things that I actually say that need to check during the wintertime. You need to check them all year round but during the winter time more often. Your tires, your battery, belts and hoses, windshield wipers, all of your fluids, and your lighting, ” says Raben Store Manager Rick Baylor.
Rick says even having a winter kit in your car for emergencies is a good idea.
“Anything that you can have if you do break down to help you with the situation.”
“But with freezing temperatures, Oldham says just stay home if can.”Just stay inside and try to keep as warm as possible when it gets down into the teens. If you can stay home, do it.”
