Woman and child found dead in home identified

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – An autopsy has been completed on a woman and child found dead in a home Wednesday night.

Vanderburgh County Coroner Steve Lockyear has identified the victims as 5-year-old Dahni Shanafelt and her mother, 49-year-old Kimbra Shanafelt.

We’re told the coroner is waiting on toxicology reports to determine the cause of their deaths. That could take about 3 weeks.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff tells Eyewitness News their bodies were found Wednesday evening in a duplex in the 300 block of Bob Court.

We’re told the woman was found in the garage.

Officials believe there are no suspects outside of the home.

This is an ongoing investigation. We will continue to follow this story and bring updates when we get them.
