WWII vet continues second cross-country walk to raise money for LST 325

Local News

(CNN) – A 95-year-old American hero is walking across America for the second time to raise money for the LST 325 docked in Evansville.

Ernie Andrus was a Navy Corpsman in World War II and he’s making a second cross-country trek.

He was part of the crew when the LST 325 was brought back from Greece to the US to be restored.

He started his latest fundraising journey in Georgia in March, and he plans to make it all the across the nation.

It took him two years last time.

Right now, he’s covering 13 miles a week.

“We should know that freedom is not free and what it takes to keep this country free. We were called on to do our part and generations before us all had to do their part and the future generations are probably going to have to do their part,” Andrus said.
