After an Evansville man overdosed and died on heroin this summer police say the man who gave him the drugs is being charged with murder.

Late Thursday night a grand jury indicted David Andrew Dimmett, 37, for murder in the death of Kourtney Field, 35, of Evansville.

Fields was found dead back in July. The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s office says that due to drug paraphernalia near his body, detectives with the Evansville Vanderburgh County Joint Drug Task Force were called in to process the scene. Toxicology results from the Indiana State Police indicated Fields died from a heroin overdose.

After cell phone records and police interviews, detectives discovered evidence indicating that Fields bought the heroin from David Dimmett, who is already in the Vanderburgh County Jail for several drug-related charges.

“Drug dealers are distributing potentially deadly substances into our community.  Our country is experiencing one of the worst drug epidemics we’ve ever seen.  And Vanderburgh County is no exception. Kids are losing their parents.  And parents are losing their children.  And we cannot stand by and let this continue to happen.”
