Melania Trump, Mike Pompeo honor women of courage

Washington, DC ( AP) – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and first lady Melania Trump presented the International Women of Courage Award to recipients around the world.

Wednesday, Pompeo began the ceremony by saying the stories of each of the women are different yet, “they share a deep belief in the fundamental dignity of every human being.”

Pompeo said the world needs women who continue to be willing to take risks.

First lady Melania Trump says, “These courageous women nurture and serve the lives of the powerless and forgotten within their communities. They are role models to the next generation.”

12 women won the award.
