Mesker Park Zoo has accepted the resignation of their Director/Executive Director effective June 30.
Amos Morris has led the zoo for eight years.
He has helped raise millions of dollars for new exhibits, including the Engelbrecht Carousel that is scheduled to be completed this summer. He also helped lay groundwork for construction on the budgie aviary and pengiun exhibits.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said,
“I want to personally thank Amos for the positive improvements he has brought to Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden since coming to Evansville in 2009. His expertise in zoo management has been greatly appreciated, and his vision for the zoo’s future has been extraordinary.”
We are told a transition plan is being created to ensure the transition is smooth with Interim Director, Erik Beck. Beck is currently the Director of Operations and has been with Mesker for 22 years.
Board President, Steve Bugg, states, “On behalf of the Board of Director’s we all wish Amos the best of luck in his future endeavors. The Society looks forward to partnering with the City of Evansville on searching for a new Zoo and Botanic Director who also serves as the Society’s Executive Director.”
Morris will be leaving Mesker Park Zoo to join the Fresno Chaffee Zoo in Fresno, California as Deputy Director/Chief Operating Officer.
