Monks construct and ceremonially deconstruct sand mandala in Evansville

A group of Tibetan monks ended a week-long stay in Evansville on Friday.

The monks constructed a sand mandala at a yoga studio in Evansville.

The mandala is a sand sculpture with symbols representing the world’s major religions.

It’s designed to show the love the monks say everyone desires.

The monks are on month seven of a nine-month tour of the United States.

After working on the mandala for a week, the monks ceremonially dismantled the sculpture and poured the sand in the Ohio River.

The ceremony was designed to have the sands spread healing energies wherever the waters take it.
