EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – More affordable housing is coming to Evansville.
The Evansville Housing Authority broke ground on a new townhome complex on Southeast 10th Street.
The nearly $12 million tax credit development project will feature 30 new units with another 30 to be renovated around the community.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has designated “Evansville Townhomes” as a high priority project for the city.
The Executive Director and CEO of Evansville Housing Authority stresses housing is the basis for everything.
“If you don’t have housing, you can’t get your children to school, you’ve got medical situations, transportation situations, it’s unstable, so housing is the grounding of all families in the community. And that stabilizes the community, when you have people that are transit and don’t have homes, it kind of brings the whole community into need.”
The new townhomes will feature several rent levels based on income.
Moore says he hopes to have a ribbon cutting in about a year.
