Names Released in Pedestrian Accident that Ended with Suspect in Flood Waters

Authorities have released the names of those involved in a hit-and-run accident in Evansville.

Police say 22-year-old Travis Cox hit pedestrian Conrad DeJesus Wednesday night near the Evansville riverfront.

Investigators believe Cox left Scores Night Club and drove the southbound in the northbound lanes of Riverside with the lights off on the truck. 

EPD tells Eyewitness News that witnesses saw Cox driving at very fast down Riverside Drive when he lost control at a curve near RiRa’s. 
Witness say that he hit a bench and several bushes before driving up on the sidewalk and striking DeJesus, who was jogging. 

We’re told Cox fled the scene but was followed by a witness. After Cox drove through a high water barricade, he drove into floodwaters on Waterworks Rd. Police say the witness got the suspect out of the truck.

Conrad Dejesus was taken to an area hospital.

Cox was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail and faces a number of charges including driving while intoxicated, hit and run with serious bodily injury, and criminal recklessness according to a probable cause affidavit.

Officials say the man who was hit has life-threatening injuries.

We’re told the suspect fled the scene but was followed by a witness. After the suspect drove through a high water barricade, he drove into floodwaters on Waterworks Rd.

Police say the witness got the suspect out of the truck. No names have been released.

Officials say the suspect is in custody.
