Kentucky gubernatorial candidates face off in debate

National News

Republican Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and Democratic candidate Andy Beshear sat down in Lexington for their fourth debate.

The debate was hosted by KET.
Both were asked about Kentucky’s chronic pension problems.

“It is impossible…impossible for the system to be sustained with our without any of the hypotheticals that are coming from Andy Beshear. Impossible financially to maintain a system where there are more retirees than there are workers. If you keep promising future employees the very same thing that current and past employees have been offered it is not financially, actuarially or demographically possible.”

“A pension is a promise. We don’t pay teachers enough to educate our children. We don’t pay law enforcement enough to protect our communities. We don’t pay social workers enough to go into a home to protect the neglected. But what we tell them is that we will make it up to them on the back end with a secure retirement. So, it is time for the new dedicated revenue from expanded gaming, medicinal marijuana.”

Their final debate will be Tuesday, Oct. 29th at Northern Kentucky University.
