NE: Farmer amputates leg with pocketknife after getting stuck in equipment

National News

NEBRASKA (CNN) – In Nebraska, a farmer got stuck inside a piece of equipment and had to cut off his own leg with a pocketknife to get out.

63-year-old Kurt Kaser was un-loading some corn last month when he got out of his truck and accidentally stepped on the opening of the grain hopper.

A device in that hopper caught his leg pulling it in.

Kaser says he couldn’t pull his leg out and he didn’t have his cellphone.

So, he took matters into his own hands with his pocketknife.

He says during the whole ordeal he never lost consciousness.

“It is what it is. Make the best of it is all you can do. I mean, it could have always been worse.”

Kaser was recently released from a rehab center.

He now has to wait for his leg to fully heal before getting a prosthetic one.
