New procedure identifies pancreatic cancer before it can develop, The OSU Wexner Medical Center says

National News

(WEHT) – Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), an icon of the civil rights movement, is going to undergo treatment for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center said the symptoms of pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest forms of cancer, are subtle and easy to miss.

The OSU Wexner Medical Center is using a new high-tech procedure to help identify pancreatic cancer before it can develop.

“Virtual biopsies” give doctors a microscopic view of the cyst wall and allow them to diagnose precancerous cysts in the pancreas with nearly 100% accuracy.

The researchers there are working to train doctors at hospitals nationwide on how to perform the new method.
