NEW YORK (CNN) – The New York City Police Officer involved in the death of Eric Garner has been suspended.
Officer Daniel Pantaleo was captured on video putting Garner in what appeared to be a chokehold during an arrest in 2014.
Garner could be heard saying he couldn’t breath and died that night.
A state grand jury and federal prosecutors decided not to press criminal charges against Pantaleo.
But the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of trials recommends he be fired.
“CCRB has made the recommendation. Commissioner O’Neill, fire Pantaleo, that’s all we asking.”
“The decision that was passed down today, saying that this police officer was reckless, is ludicrous.”
Protesters have been calling for Pantaleo’s termination.
But NYPD’s Commissioner will have the final say.
