Saved by the belt; A Chattanooga man’s belt buckle stops a bullet

CHATTANOOGA, Tn. (WEHT) – A Chattanooga man credits a $20 belt with saving his life.

Grant Gunter says he feels lucky to be alive.

Gunter was walking back to his pick up on Saturday when he saw two guys rummaging through his truck.

He yelled at them to stop and when they started running so did he.

Just as he was about to catch up to the thieves one boy turned around and shot him.

“It felt like Mike Tyson came up to me and punched me…that or just someone with a bat come up to you and hit you in the stomach.”, Gunther added.

Police sat the buckle of the belt Gunter was wearing deflected the bulled, saving his life.

Gunter says he “Could have very well been six feet under.”

Gunther’s attitude toward the experience is very forgiving and encouraging to others.
