(WEHT)- A bipartisan provision that would rebuild America’s drinking water infrastructure with American steel and iron passed committee Wednesday.
The Made in America Water Infrastructure Act requires that American-made iron and steel is used in water infrastructure projects funded by a federal-state partnership that helps ensure safe drinking water in all 50 states and territories.
The provision is sponsored by Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) and Sen. Mike Braun (R-Indiana). The provision was included as part of the Drinking Water Infrastructure Act of 2020 and passed alongside the America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2020.
Sen. Braun said “I am proud that the ‘Buy America’ provision requires this infrastructure built with taxpayer dollars to use American-made iron and steel.”
